About The Iron Verdict

Independent, data-driven reviews of fitness supplements, equipment and recovery tools. No sponsored rankings. No brand deals. Just the evidence.

Mission

The fitness supplement industry is built on bad incentives. Most review sites are paid to rank products. Most articles cite cherry-picked studies. Most recommendations are driven by whoever has the highest affiliate rate, not the best evidence.

The Iron Verdict exists to fix that. Our mission is straightforward: review every product we test with the same honesty we'd use if a friend asked us what to buy, and report what the science actually says — not what a brand paid us to say.

Every product ranked on this site was purchased independently. No brand has ever paid to appear in our rankings. Affiliate commissions are disclosed on every page, and they never influence where a product places.

Who We Are

Marcus Reid leads supplement and equipment coverage. He is a NASM-certified personal trainer with ten years of coaching experience across strength training, body composition and sports performance. He has personally tested over 150 products and holds additional credentials in precision nutrition.

Dr. Sarah Chen serves as Nutrition Science Advisor. She holds a PhD in Exercise Physiology and reviews all supplement content for scientific accuracy, ensuring claims are grounded in peer-reviewed research before publication.

Additional review support comes from certified coaches and registered dietitians who specialize in their respective categories.

Supplement Evaluation Criteria

Every supplement review is scored across five dimensions:

Ingredient quality (30 pts): Is the active ingredient the form that human trials actually studied? Is it dosed at the clinically validated amount, or is the dose below what research used? Are there proprietary blends that hide doses?

Evidence strength (25 pts): How robust is the research base? We weight meta-analyses and systematic reviews above single studies, and human trials above animal or in-vitro data.

Third-party testing (20 pts): Is the product certified by Informed Choice, NSF Sport or an equivalent independent body? For drug-tested athletes this is non-negotiable.

Value for money (15 pts): Cost per effective dose, not cost per serving. A product with a large serving count but a sub-therapeutic dose is not good value.

Real-world testing (10 pts): Mixability, taste, digestive tolerance and consistency across our 90-day testing panels.

Scientific Review Process

Content on The Iron Verdict goes through a three-step review before publication. First, a primary author researches the topic using peer-reviewed sources — primarily PubMed, PubMed Central and position stands from organisations like the International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN) and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).

Second, Dr. Sarah Chen reviews all supplement content for scientific accuracy. Claims are checked against the cited sources, dosing recommendations are verified against clinical trial protocols, and any overreaching or unsupported statements are removed.

Third, pages are updated when new meta-analyses or major clinical trials are published, when product formulations change, or when new competitors emerge that alter our rankings. Every page displays its last updated date.

We distinguish between strong evidence (multiple human RCTs, systematic reviews, meta-analyses), emerging evidence (early-stage human trials with promising but incomplete data) and speculative claims (animal models, theoretical mechanisms, industry-funded studies only). These distinctions appear in every article.

Affiliate Disclosure

The Iron Verdict participates in the Amazon Associates Program and other affiliate programs. We earn a commission on purchases made through our links at no extra cost to you. This is how we fund independent testing — we do not accept brand sponsorships, paid placements or sponsored content.
