Legion Genesis Review

6 g of spirulina, 3 g of astragalus, 3 g of matcha, 1.5 g of maca, all printed. Greens powders do not replace vegetables, and this page explains what it does do.

The verdict

Almost every greens powder is a proprietary blend of unweighable dust. This one prints four ingredients at their doses, and the spirulina at 6 g sits inside the range Legion itself cites as clinically effective. That makes it one of the few checkable products in an uncheckable category. It still does not replace vegetables, and no greens powder does.

The category problem this product avoids

Greens powders are usually sold as a long list of exotic plant names inside a proprietary blend, so you cannot tell whether the twenty-fifth ingredient is a gram or a grain of dust. Hiding the split is the point: it lets a label look impressive at a cost of pennies. Genesis lists four ingredients with a weight next to each, which means the label can be checked. That is the main reason it is worth writing about at all.

Spirulina at 6 g, which is the part with a real dose

Legion's own page puts the clinically effective range for spirulina at 2 to 10 g, with most of the benefit in the 5 to 10 g band. At 6 g this is inside that band rather than gesturing at it. Spirulina has trials on immune markers, exercise fatigue and muscle damage; the literature is modest in size and mostly positive. This is the ingredient doing the work.

The other three, honestly

Astragalus, matcha and maca each have a smaller and less consistent evidence base than spirulina, and their doses are printed here so you can look them up rather than take our word for it. Matcha at 3 g brings a small amount of caffeine and catechins. Treat these as supporting cast: if the product were spirulina alone at 6 g, you would lose less than the ingredient list suggests.

What it does not do

It does not replace vegetables. Vegetables bring fibre, volume, water and a spread of compounds that no powder reproduces, and the trials behind vegetable intake are about eating vegetables. A greens powder is an addition to a diet that already has them, and any product marketed as a substitute is selling you a story.

Who it is for

Buy it if
  • You want a greens powder whose label can actually be checked
  • You want spirulina at a dose inside its studied range
  • You already eat vegetables and want to add to that
Skip it if
  • You are using it instead of eating vegetables
  • You want the longest ingredient list for the money
  • You are sensitive to caffeine in the evening — there is matcha in it

Questions

Does a greens powder replace vegetables?
No. It has none of the fibre or volume and only a fraction of the compounds. Use it alongside vegetables or not at all.
Why are there only four ingredients?
Because four ingredients at real doses cost more than thirty at token ones. A short list with weights beside it is a better sign than a long list without them.
Does it contain caffeine?
Yes, a small amount from the 3 g of matcha. It is not a stimulant product, but it is not nothing if you are taking it late.
